Ketogenic! Read up on what all the hype is about. I lost twenty pounds in a month. Let me be the first to tell you that it works. I would also like to tell you that this is one of the most effective diets I have ever used, and I have tried just about every diet there is. The ketogenic is an incredible fat burner, I gained energy, and lost about twenty pounds in a month. Let me tell you how I did it and what I found works best.

So keto basically limits you to less than 20 grams of carbohydrates per day, it’s suggested that you up your healthy fat intake, up your vegetable intake, and you want to attempt to keep your calorie intake normal. In a nutshell you can’t have any sugar, bread, fruit, anything with flour in it, or anything else you can think of that has carbohydrates. It can be rough, but it’s well worth it.

Let’s sum that up:

  1. Less than 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. (Cutting sugar, fruit, bread, pasta…etc.)
  2. Your diet will consist of meat, healthy oils like coconut oil, and low carb green vegetables.
  3. Take note that starchy vegetables are also not allowed. (potatoes & carrots)

Very simple, and yet, keto can be one tough mother to handle. But hey, is there anything easy that’s actually worth doing? Let me take you through the day to day life of the diet.

Day 1-

I was starving. Nothing seems to fill me up. I ate about twelve eggs, a little cheese, some peppers, and a couple grilled chicken breast.

Day 3-

Lost 3 pounds already. Probably just my glucose levels that are down. My body is going through withdrawals. I felt incredibly lethargic, and I did not want to go to the gym at all, but I had to keep going. Because that’s what winners do.

Day 14-

I’ve lost 13 pounds. I’ve been hitting the gym 4 times a week for 45 minutes. Things are a lot easier. My energy is back, and I even find that I have much greater energy levels than before. Although I’m still pretty hungry day to day. I figured out that there are zero carb protein powders out there. I’ve branched out with my diet quite a bit. I’m now eating fish, steak, chicken, tuna, eggs, certain brands of bacon even are allowed, all sorts of leafy greens for nutrients, and I always cook with unrefined coconut oil. I throw an avocado in here and there.

Days 15-30-

I’ve lost an additional 7 pounds, but I broke down for a single meal and lost my state of ketosis. However, I was happy to find that you can get back into ketosis after three days. Besides the weight loss, there wasn’t much change for the last 2 weeks of the ketogenic. I went and got a device at Walmart that measures the number of ketones in my blood. It works, but I’m not super fond of the finger poke.

To sum up:

I think I actually gained a ton of energy and strength on all my lifts. I went from roughly 12% body fat to 8%. If you’re a lifter, you’ll know that’s a significant amount. I started at about 170 pounds and ended at 148ish. (Depending on weighing in the morning or evening.) I recommend doing this diet when you’re working! It’s much easier to occupy your mind at work so you don’t think about the hunger.
